Professional Diploma in Computer Networks

 

Department of Information Technology — Computer Networks

 

1. Program Overview:

An intensive professional and applied program extending over 3 months (80 hours of approved study load), designed to prepare and qualify professional network engineers and technicians with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to design, build, manage, and secure wired and wireless computer networks. The program covers network models and protocols, Routing & Switching, Subnetting, troubleshooting, and the monitoring of network performance and security.


2. Key Objectives:

  • Understanding network architecture and models: understanding the standard reference models (OSI Model and TCP/IP) and their practical applications in data transmission.
  • Mastering addressing, subnetting, and device configuration: mastering IP address calculations and Subnetting, and configuring basic network devices, routers, and switches (Routers & Switches).
  • Managing and securing networks and wireless communications: configuring network protocols and services, and securing and protecting local and wireless networks against common threats.
  • Troubleshooting, monitoring, and network management: acquiring techniques for detecting and resolving problems and faults (Troubleshooting), monitoring data traffic and performance, and implementing an integrated network project.

  • Beginners and individuals wishing to start a professional career in computer network administration and support.
  • Technical support and Information Technology (IT Support) personnel wishing to advance to network engineer and network administrator roles.
  • Students and graduates of Information Technology, Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications programs.

4. Study Plan Modules (12 Interactive and Applied Modules):

1. Introduction to Computer Networks.

2. OSI and TCP/IP Models.

3. Ethernet Fundamentals and Local Area Networks (LANs).

4. IP Addressing and Subnetting.

5. Network Devices and Their Functions.

6. Routing & Switching Fundamentals.

7. Network Protocols and Services (DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and others).

8. Wireless Networks and Connectivity.

9. Network Security Fundamentals.

10. Network Troubleshooting.

11. Network Management & Monitoring.

12. Final Network Project.


5. Program Data and Organizational Assessment:

  • Field and specialization: Information Technology / Computer Networks.
  • Duration and sessions: 3 months (evening period) | 20 to 25 lectures (two lectures per week, two hours per lecture).
  • Distribution of credit hours (80 total hours):

50 hours: interactive live lectures (remote / online).

20 hours: required readings and open resources.

7 hours: chapter questions and self-assessment.

3 hours: final review and completion examination.

  • Attendance and assessment requirements: an attendance rate of no less than 75% of the interactive lectures, in addition to assignments and practical assessments.
  • Final project: an online assessment test (25 multiple-choice questions + 5 practical case questions), in addition to designing, building, and simulating an integrated network project.
