Program Specification

Field and Subfield: Journalism and Media / Program Production and Newsroom Management

 

1. Program Overview:

An integrated professional and applied program extending over 3 months (80 accredited study-load hours), aimed at preparing and qualifying television producers and news-content creators to manage, plan, and produce news programs, talk programs, and talk shows in accordance with international standards. The program covers newsroom structures (Newsrooms); the roles and responsibilities of the executive and line producer (Executive & Line Producer); editorial policies and determining news value (News Value); the design and construction of talk-program segments; preparing and coordinating guest interviews; scriptwriting and building the time-based broadcast schedule for segments (Rundown); managing live coverage and breaking news (Breaking News); coordination between the studio and correspondents; employing visual-production elements and graphics; managing the television production team; verifying fake news; and legal and ethical responsibility.


2. Key Objectives:

  • Understanding newsroom dynamics and structure: Understanding the roles and responsibilities of newsroom teams and mastering the duties of the executive producer and line producer.
  • Mastering television editing and news ordering: Evaluating news value (News Value), determining editorial priorities, and formulating engaging television treatments.
  • Designing talk programs and scheduling broadcasts: Building the structure of talk shows, preparing guest files and interview questions, and designing the daily Rundown to control the timing of on-air segments.
  • Managing live coverage and breaking news: Leading the control room and coordinating between the presenter, director, and field correspondents during emergency events and live broadcasting (Breaking News).
  • Employing technology and journalistic verification: Using graphics, captions, and B-Roll videos, verifying the credibility of information to prevent the circulation of fake news, and adhering to legal standards.

5. Organizational Structure and Assessment System:

  • Duration and Schedule: 3 months (evening period), at a rate of two lectures per week (two hours per lecture = 50 direct interactive hours).
  • Training Language and Delivery Method: Arabic language | Fully online interactive and applied training (Online).
  • Distribution of Accredited Hours (80 total hours):

50 hours: Direct and interactive online lectures.

20 hours: Practical applications and newsroom simulations.

7 hours: Analysis and review of international program formats and news bulletins.

3 hours: Evaluation and discussion of final production projects.

  • Assessment System and Attendance Requirements: Attendance of no less than 75% of lectures, with continuous assessment including periodic assignments, production plans, and examinations.
  • Certificate and Graduation Project: The graduate is awarded the Professional Diploma in News & Talk Show Production after completing and discussing the final graduation project: preparing and building the complete “Production Bible,” including the Rundown, script, and guest plan for a complete talk or news program episode.
