Professional Pediatric Nutritionist Diploma

 

Field and Subfield: Nutrition Sciences / Therapeutic Nutrition

 

1. Program Overview:

An advanced professional and specialized program extending over 6 months (115 hours of approved study load), aimed at preparing and qualifying certified pediatric nutritionists equipped with the latest clinical knowledge and therapeutic protocols. The program covers all stages of child growth and nutrition from infancy through adolescence, with a focus on breastfeeding, the characteristics of breast milk and Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs), management of food allergies and gastrointestinal disorders (such as celiac disease, reflux, and intestinal inflammation), treatment of malnutrition and growth faltering, nutritional interventions for chronic diseases (such as diabetes and kidney and liver diseases), and enteral and parenteral nutrition support protocols (Enteral & Parenteral Nutrition).

2. Key Objectives:

  • Assessment of children's growth and dietary intake: mastering anthropometric measurements (Anthropometry), evaluating growth curves, and analyzing dietary history and intake across different age stages.
  • Advanced management of infant nutrition and breast milk: understanding the physiology of breastfeeding, fortified formula preparations, and the role of Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) in enhancing immunity and the microbiome and preventing intestinal and allergic diseases.
  • Treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and malnutrition: developing nutritional rehabilitation plans for eating disorders, celiac disease, food allergies and intolerances, growth faltering, and acute and chronic malnutrition.
  • Mastering clinical therapeutic nutrition and parenteral and enteral support: designing nutritional interventions for premature infants, children with diabetes, renal failure, and liver diseases, and applying tube-feeding (Enteral) and intravenous nutrition (Parenteral) protocols.

  • Foundational Stage: assessment of child growth, anthropometric measurements, breastfeeding, complementary foods, and allergy prevention.
  • Clinical Stage: infant gut microbiota, micronutrient deficiencies, celiac disease, gastroesophageal reflux, malnutrition, and growth faltering.
  • Medical and Critical Conditions: nutrition for premature and low-birth-weight infants, pediatric diabetes, kidney diseases and cholestatic liver diseases, and enteral and parenteral support.
  • Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) Science: the role of HMOs such as 2'-FL and LNnT in immune modulation, prevention of infection and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and nutrition for Picky Eaters.

6. Organizational Structure and Assessment System:

  • Duration and sessions: 6 months (evening period), at a rate of two lectures per week, two hours per lecture = 48 lectures / 96 direct training hours.
  • Language of study and delivery method: Arabic and English | fully remote interactive training (Online).
  • Distribution of credit hours (115 total hours):

96 hours: live interactive online lectures.

10 hours: required and open readings.

5 hours: chapter questions and self-assessment.

4 hours: final review and program completion examination.

  • Attendance and assessment requirements: attendance of no less than 75% of the lectures, and completion of periodic assignments and examinations.
  • Certificate and final project: the graduate is awarded a Diploma in Therapeutic Nutrition (Certified Pediatric Nutritionist) after passing the final online examination consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions + 5 applied clinical case questions.
