Advanced Professional Diploma in Computer Systems

 

Department of Information Technology — Computer Systems

 

1. Program Overview:

An advanced and comprehensive professional program extending over 6 months (160 hours of approved study load), aimed at preparing and qualifying computer systems engineers and administrators who possess a deep and comprehensive understanding of computer architecture, hardware organization, and low-level programming, in addition to the management and security of operating systems and virtual environments. The program covers processor architecture, memory management, Assembly language, Linux system administration, Containers & Virtualization technologies, and systems performance analysis and security.


2. Key Objectives:

  • Understanding computer organization and architecture: understanding how the processor and control unit operate, data-path organization, and the management of memory, storage systems, and input/output.
  • Mastering low-level programming and operating systems: learning Assembly language and understanding the mechanisms of Processes, Threads, memory management, and file systems.
  • Managing Linux servers and systems: mastering Linux system administration, configuring network connectivity between systems, troubleshooting problems, and optimizing performance.
  • Mastering virtualization and security technologies: applying virtualization and container solutions, and securing and protecting computer systems against vulnerabilities and threats.

5. Program Data and Organizational Assessment:

  • Field and subfield: Information Technology / Computer Systems.
  • Duration and sessions: 6 months (evening period) | 50 lectures, at a rate of two lectures per week, two hours per lecture = 100 direct training hours.
  • Distribution of credit hours (160 total hours):

100 hours: interactive live lectures (remote / online).

40 hours: required readings and open resources.

15 hours: chapter questions and self-assessment.

5 hours: final review and completion examination.

  • Attendance and assessment requirements: an attendance rate of no less than 75% of the interactive lectures, in addition to assignments and practical applications.
  • Final project: an online assessment test (25 multiple-choice questions + 5 practical case questions), in addition to implementing and submitting an integrated applied computer systems project.
