1. Program Overview:

An advanced and accredited professional and academic program extending over 6 months (160 hours of approved study load), aimed at enabling researchers, thinkers, preachers, and opinion makers to comprehend the Islamic intellectual system and develop tools of scientific analysis and criticism for dealing with contemporary intellectual trends and transformations. The program covers the foundations of Islamic thought and its inferential methodologies; the study of philosophical and value transformations (secularism, modernity and postmodernity, individualism, and globalization); the deconstruction of major contemporary issues such as new atheism, the relationship between science and religion, and issues of family and identity; in addition to mastering tools of critical inquiry, identifying fallacies, and building sound renewal-oriented visions to address current challenges.

2. Key Objectives:

•         Methodological grounding of Islamic thought: understanding the sources of Islamic thought, methods of reconciliation and integration among reason, text, and reality, and the controls governing constants and variables in contemporary ijtihad.

•         Understanding and analyzing intellectual trends and transformations: studying the major concepts underpinning modernity and postmodernity, and understanding the impact of individualism, globalization, and value transformations on Muslim societies.

•         Addressing complex intellectual issues: deconstructing problems related to contemporary atheism, issues of faith and revelation, reconciling scientific and faith-based knowledge, and crises affecting the system of ethics and family.

•         Mastering tools of thinking and critical inquiry: acquiring skills in critical analysis of incoming intellectual discourses, identifying logical fallacies, and constructing sound demonstrative argumentation.

•         Building a renewal-oriented and civilizational vision: activating tools of Islamic renewal to provide integrated epistemological answers and alternatives that respond to contemporary questions while preserving identity.

·         The concept of Islamic thought, its fields, and characteristics (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Sources of Islamic thought and its principles of inference (3 lectures / 6 hours).

·         Reason, text, and reality in the methodologies of Islamic thought (3 lectures / 6 hours).

·         Ijtihad and renewal and the controls governing constants and variables (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Methodologies for building vision in Islamic thought (2 lectures / 4 hours).

 Second Course: Islamic Thought and Contemporary Transformations (CIF102)

·         Transformations in the concept of the human being in contemporary thought (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Secularism, modernity, and postmodernity (3 lectures / 6 hours).

·         Individualism, freedom, and value transformations (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Identity, globalization, and cultural openness (3 lectures / 6 hours).

·         The impact of intellectual transformations on Muslim societies (2 lectures / 4 hours).

 Third Course: Issues in Contemporary Islamic Thought (CIF103)

·         Contemporary atheism and issues of faith and revelation (3 lectures / 6 hours).

·         Religion, reason, and science: issues of relationship and problematic questions (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Freedom, values, and ethics in contemporary thought (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Family, women, and contemporary intellectual transformations (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Incoming concepts and issues and their impact on Islamic thought (3 lectures / 6 hours).

 Fourth Course: Criticism and Renewal in Islamic Thought (CIF104)

·         Foundations of critical inquiry in Islamic thought (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Analysis of contemporary intellectual concepts and discourses (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Argumentation, inference, and identifying intellectual fallacies (3 lectures / 6 hours).

·         Criticism, dialogue, and management of disagreement (2 lectures / 4 hours).

·         Renewal and building a vision toward contemporary issues (3 lectures / 6 hours).

6. Organizational Structure and Assessment System:

•         Duration and sessions: 6 months (evening period), at a rate of two lectures per week, two hours per lecture = 96 direct interactive training hours through 48 sessions.

•         Language of study and delivery method: Arabic | fully remote interactive training (Online).

•         Distribution of approved hours (160 hours):

·         96 hours: direct interactive lectures and analytical applications.

·         28 hours: required readings and intellectual and open references.

·         10 hours: chapter questions and short activities.

·         8 hours: applied assignments and intellectual research.

·         6 hours: assessment and periodic feedback.

·         6 hours: interim and final reviews.

·         6 hours: final examination and graduation project.

•         Attendance and assessment requirements: attendance of no less than 75% of the direct interactive lectures, and submission of the required research papers and critical-analysis papers.

•         Certificate and graduation project: the graduate is awarded the Advanced Professional Diploma in Contemporary Islamic Thought after passing the electronic examination (25 questions + 5 questions on contemporary real-life and intellectual cases) and submitting an optional applied analytical research paper that deconstructs a contemporary intellectual issue or discourse.
