Professional Diploma in Embedded Systems

Department of Information Technology — Embedded Systems

1. Program Overview:

An advanced professional and applied program extending over 6 months (160 hours of approved study load), aimed at preparing and qualifying embedded systems engineers and developers who possess in-depth knowledge of the integration between software and hardware (Software & Hardware). The program covers digital electronic circuits, programming in C/C++ for embedded systems, working with processors and microcontrollers, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Embedded Linux systems, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and embedded systems security.

2. Key Objectives:

  • Understanding digital electronics and low-level programming: mastering digital circuits and programming in C and C++ for direct control of hardware and microcontrollers.
  • Controlling inputs, outputs, and protocols: professionally working with GPIO, Timers, Interrupts, sensors and actuators, and embedded communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, and others).
  • Mastering development platforms and embedded operating systems: programming and developing practical projects using Arduino and ESP32, and applying Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and Embedded Linux.
  • Integration with the Internet of Things and management of security and power: building integrated IoT applications, securing embedded systems against intrusion, improving power-consumption efficiency and reliability, and testing systems.

3. Target Audience:

  • Engineers and students in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Mechatronics, and Industrial Automation.
  • Software developers wishing to enter the field of low-level programming, embedded systems, and the Internet of Things.
  • Technicians and technical professionals working in circuit design, smart systems, and controllers.
  • Hobbyists and innovators wishing to transform prototypes into integrated electronic products and systems suitable for industrial application.

4. Study Plan Modules (15 Interactive and Applied Modules):

1. Introduction to Embedded Systems and Their Fundamental Concepts.

2. Fundamentals of Electronics and Digital Circuits.

3. C and C++ Programming for Embedded Systems.

4. Processors and Microcontrollers (Microprocessors & Microcontrollers).

5. Inputs and Outputs, Timers, and Interrupts (GPIO, Timers, Interrupts).

6. Embedded Communications and Protocols (Embedded Communication Protocols).

7. Sensors and Actuators.

8. Arduino and ESP32 Systems and Applications.

9. Embedded Linux Operating System.

10. Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).

11. Internet of Things (IoT) and Connectivity with Embedded Systems.

12. Embedded Systems Design and Testing (Design & Testing).

13. Embedded Systems Security.

14. Power Management and Reliability.

15. Final Embedded Systems Project.

5. Program Data and Organizational Assessment:

  • Field and subfield: Information Technology / Embedded Systems.
  • Duration and sessions: 6 months (evening period) | 50 lectures, at a rate of two lectures per week, two hours per lecture = 100 direct training hours.
  • Distribution of credit hours (160 total hours):

100 hours: interactive live lectures (remote / online).

40 hours: required readings and open resources.

15 hours: chapter questions and self-assessment.

5 hours: final review and completion examination.

  • Attendance and assessment requirements: an attendance rate of no less than 75% of the interactive lectures, in addition to assignments and practical projects.
  • Final project: an online assessment test (25 multiple-choice questions + 5 practical case questions), in addition to designing and building an integrated applied embedded system as a graduation project.
