Expressive Arts Diploma for ADHD Support

Psychology / Expressive Arts Supporting ADHD — Novera International University

1. Program Overview:

An advanced professional and applied program extending over 3 months (12 weeks — 120 hours of approved study load), aimed at providing psychologists, educational specialists, and educators with practical tools and expressive-arts-based interventions to support and rehabilitate individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The program focuses on understanding symptom patterns and executive functions, using drawing to train sequencing and increase attention, transforming random movement into organized and purposeful movement, using music and rhythm to enhance working memory and turn-taking, employing acting and interactive storytelling to regulate impulsivity and modify responses, through to developing integrated art projects that train the child to complete tasks and assess indicators of behavioral progress.

2. Key Objectives:

  •         Understanding the nature of ADHD and executive functions: understanding the mechanisms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity before designing supportive interventions.
  •         Using visual and plastic arts to enhance concentration: transforming drawing, modeling, and handicraft activities into systematic exercises for sequencing, planning, and returning to the task until completion.
  •          Managing movement and impulsivity through rhythm and drama: using organized movement, musical rhythm, acting, and role-playing to develop working memory, turn-taking, and control of impulsive responses (Inhibition).
  •          Designing and evaluating therapeutic art programs: preparing and implementing integrated practical sessions within the ADHD and Arts Lab, and tracking indicators of behavioral and developmental progress in cases.

3. Target Audience:

  •         Psychologists and educational counselors in schools and specialized centers.
  •         Behavior modification, special education, motor rehabilitation, and occupational rehabilitation specialists.
  •         Expressive arts therapists and teachers of art education, music, and drama.
  •         Parents and educators interested in non-pharmacological, arts-based support methods.

  •          Distribution of credit hours (120 total hours):

·         48 hours: live and recorded interactive lectures (4 hours per week × 12 weeks).

·         12 hours: scientific readings and references (understanding Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and executive functions).

·         40 hours: practical applications and workshops (guide to art activities for educators and specialists).

·         20 hours: final graduation project and ADHD and Arts Lab applications.

  •         Attendance and assessment requirements: attendance of no less than 75% of lectures and workshops, and submission of periodic applications and assignments.

  •         Certificate and final project: the trainee is awarded the Expressive Arts Diploma for ADHD Support after passing the online examination (25) multiple-choice questions and submitting the graduation project: designing an integrated art program for a hypothetical case targeting a specific skill through different art media.
